FERNANDO MIGUEL JALÔTO
Fernando Miguel Jalôto is the founder and artistic director of Ludovice Ensemble, one of the most active and prestigious groups of Ancient Music in Portugal.
He is a member of the Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música (Porto) – with whom he performed as a soloist several times in concerts by C. Seixas, J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach and Guilhermina of Prussia – and collaborates with specialized international groups such as Oltremontano, La Galanía, Vox Luminis, La Colombina, Capilla Flamenca, Collegium Musicum Madrid, Bonne Corde, among others.
He performed at several festivals and countless concerts in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Germany, Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, Israel, China and Japan. He plays frequently with the Orquestra e Coro Gulbenkian (Lisbon) and performed with the Lyra Baroque Orchestra (Minnesota), the San Escolanía de San Lorenzo d’ El Escorial, the Norwegian Radio Broadcasting Orchestra, the Camerata Academica Salzburg, the Chamber Orchestra of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, among others.
He was a member of the Académie Baroque Européenne d’Ambronay (France), the Academia MUSICA de Neerpelt (Belgium) and the baroque orchestra Divino Sospiro. He worked under the direction of some of the greatest specialized teachers.
He recorded for Ramée / Outhere (with Ludovice Ensemble), Brilliant Classics (Integral of the Suites for Harpsichord solo by Dieupart), Dynamic (Concerto for harpsichord by C. Seixas), Harmonia Mundi, Glossa Music, Parati, Anima & Corpo e Conditura Records, as well as for Portuguese, German and Czech radio, and the television channels Mezzo, Arte and RTP.
In 2019, he presented a solo recital dedicated to the work of Neapolitan G. Salvatore at the Oude Muziek Festival in Utrecht (Netherlands). For 2020, two solo recitals dedicated to D. Scarlatti and C. Seixas are scheduled at the invitation of National Heritage (Spain).
As a conductor, he directed great works from the Baroque repertoire such as Vespers of Monteverdi, various masses and cantatas by J.S. Bach, oratories by A. Scarlatti, operas by J.B. Lully, M.A. Charpentier and T.L. Bourgeois, and motets by J.P. Rameau in venues like the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and the Centro Cultural de Belém.
Miguel completed his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Harpsichord at the Department of Ancient Music and Historical Interpretation Practices at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (Netherlands), in the class of Jacques Ogg. He attended masterclasses with Gustav Leonhardt, Olivier Baumont, Ilton Wjuniski and Laurence Cummings. He also studied clavichord and organ and was a fellow at the National Center of Culture.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Music from the University of Aveiro and is currently a PhD student in Music Sciences | Historical Musicology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa as a FCT Fellow under the guidance of Profs. Rui Vieira Nery and Cristina Fernandes.
