Miriam Macaia was born in Tomar, in the midst of an African family with a strong musical tradition.
She started studying music at the age of 5, and after completing her studies in modern violin at the Conservatório de Música do Porto with Suzanna Lidegran, she studied baroque violin, in the class of Amandine Beyer, at the Escola Superior de Música do Porto.
She was a fellow of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and had the privilege of working with notable musicians, such as Enrico Onofri, Chiara Banchini, Amandine Beyer, Bojan Čičić, Christophe Coin, Harry Christophers, Huw Daniel, Christina Pluhar, Rachel Podger, Christophe Rousset, Andreas Staier and Laurence Cummings.
She has developed a solid career as an orchestral instrumentalist throughout Europe, having already recorded for Pan Classics, Dynamic, Harmonia Mundi, Universal Music, as well as European radio stations and television channels.
Miriam has collaborated with several groups, such as Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, The Sixteen, Divino Sospiro, Musicians of the Tagus, Baroque Orchestra of the European Union, and Ludovice Ensemble. Since 2008, she has been a member of the Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música.
